Irishman Barry (Gordon Ramsey) McCarthy returned to first team action this week for Durham County Cricket Club after impressive performances for the 2nd XI in the early part of the English County Season.  It was great to see the whole hearted Irishman get an opportunity on the first class circuit and he didn’t disappoint.

Batting at No.10, Barry impressed with a well compiled 37 in Durham’s first innings total of 411. Barry didn’t stop there either, rewarding the faith of Durham’s heirarchy taking 5/70 off 22 overs in Lancashire’s innings of 326.
Barry was not required to don the pads in the second innings as the Durham batsman took command declare at 4/239 from 60 overs.

Lancashire, chasing 325 for victory never really got going as the Durham lads dismissed Lanc’s for 251.  Barry (1/51) chipped in with the key wicket of Lancashire’s captain Steven Croft for 1.
