Randwick Petersham Cricket today won the 5th Grade premiership defeating St George at Hurstville Oval by 187 runs on the first innings.

After being dismissed for 261 in response to Saints’ 74 on day 1, the weather turned sour overnight and day 2 brought the predicted showers. After much cleaning-up, play got underway almost an hour late. However, after just 4 balls the heavens opened and the covers were again rushed out. The heavy downpour put paid to any speedy resumption and after sizing up the situation, the St George captain called a halt and conceded defeat. The premiership was ours!!

It was a gleeful Nigil Singh who accepted the David Sherwood Cup at the presentation–the third time in its 16 years the club had won the competition. And in a fitting tribute to the way Singh had handled his team as well as playing some brilliant cricket, he was awarded the Player of the Grand Final Medal. His 56 wickets for the season was the best bowling performance in that grade for the club since James LeHuray took 66 for the old Randwick club in 1994-95. He was also the competition’s leading wicket-taker—24 more than any other bowler. Congratulations to the Randwick Petersham Cricket Adina Apartment Hotel Coogee Sydney 5th Grade team–2016-17 Champions!!
