The Sydney Cricket Association has released the draws for the 2019/20 AW Green Shield and Poidevin-Gray Shield competitions.
The AW Green Shield is the premier age-group competition, not only in Sydney but in New South Wales. Contested by the best under 16s in the state, it is seen as the pinnacle of a young cricketer’s junior career. The competition is considered by many to be the toughest 16s competition in the world and is a breeding ground for future test cricketers. Played over seven rounds between the middle of December through to the middle of January, followed by quarters, semis and a grand final, this unforgiving format can hinge on one unfavourable result. Our boys have come perilously close to the finals in the last two seasons and will be looking to go one better – with a draw that doesn’t take them too far off the beaten path.
The Poidevin-Gray Shield separates the boys from the men as the premier under 21s competition in NSW. AW Green Shield graduates mix with players who have gathered significant playing experience over the years to create an intense and challenging competition. While the matches are played across the season, the format of the competition has changed over the last few years. 2019/20 sees the competition mix the traditional one dayers with T20 curtain-raisers for the Kingsgrove T20. After a few rough seasons, our under 21s will no doubt be keen to make significant impression on the competition.
With the NSW Premier Cricket and Kingsgrove Sports T20 draws already announced, the Metropolitan Cup draw will be announced closer to the start of the season. Until then, check out the AW Green Shield and Poidevin-Gray Shield draws below.
