Round 6 NSW Premier Cricket & Metro Cup 2021-22 Preview
v Penrith & North West Sydney Gold
Round 5 Twenty20 Cup & PGs v Easts
As if recent weekends haven’t been big enough! And it’s on again this weekend—THE BIG PANTHERS CLASH–the last full weekend before Christmas. On Saturday the 5 grades play Penrith in a round of 50-overs-a-side matches commencing at 10 am with 1st Grade at Howell Oval, Penrith. In Metropolitan Cup, we also play the Panthers (Saturday) and North West Sydney Gold (Sunday). Also on Sunday, a LOCAL DERBY T20 double-header at COOGEE v Eastern Suburbs with round 5 of the Kingsgrove Sports Twenty20 Cup commencing at 2.30pm after the PGs (under 21), play at 10 am.
What a weekend we had last round with a GREENWASH over Campbelltown-Camden winning all 5 grades! It was the 18th time we have done that and the first since knocking over Easts in the 5 grades in 2016-17—4 years ago. It meant we jumped from 11th to 6th in the Club Championship although after losing the T20 match and the PGs last Sunday to Mosman, we have dropped marginally to 7th. Mosman have been catapulted into the lead. Penrith is 10th just 42 points behind us.
We also thank the President Mike Whitney for his generous sponsorship of this Rounds match balls. Cheers Whit!!
1st GRADE is at Howell Oval (Penrith) on Saturday: We are 9th with 3 wins and Penrith is 11th with 2. And while they are always a hard nut to crack, we have a great record at Howell Oval winning 7 to their 2 with one drawn. We last played them there two years ago and in 38 degree heat, belted 7d-430 with Jason Sangha making 138, Daniel Bell Drummond 93 and Riley Ayre 73*. They scored 385 after being 3-278 with Ryan Gibson hitting 141. Adam Semple got us the points with 4-52 off 17. It doesn’t look like it will be anywhere near that hot this Saturday. Semple is on the verge of 400 wickets with 395 for the club and 393 in 1st Grade although he is not playing Saturday, but will be on deck for Sunday’s match.
1st Grade is at Coogee on Sunday for the Twenty20 Cup clash with Easts at 2.30pm: We have played Easts 6 times in T20 matches and won them all! But there’s no room for complacency as they are going well this season and have won 4 of 5 Belvidere Cup matches although they have lost 2 of their 3 T20 games. We need to win in this FINAL ROUND of the competition to ensure we make the Qualifying Finals. We are 3rd at present but have a better net run rate than any team other than the unbeaten leaders St George who play 6th placed UTS North Sydney. If other games go our way, we could end up in front or 2nd. If you can’t get there on Sunday, the match may be streamed live through: https://matchcentre.premier.cricketnsw.com.au/ – go to Match Centre and search for the match.
