Round 7 NSW Premier Cricket v Sutherland & Metro Cup 2021-22 Preview

v Georges River & Sydney University Blue

This is the last round before the Christmas break with a full round of Limited Overs matches against Sutherland from 10 am on Saturday In Metropolitan Cup cricket, Green plays Sydney university and Gold meets Georges River, both games on Sunday.

Last weekend was a big one for 1st Grade moving into the top 6 in the Belvidere Cup competition while cementing a spot in the semi-finals of the Kingsgrove Sports Twenty20 Cup. We also improved in the Club Championship and are now in 7th spot. This week’s opponent, Sutherland, is 12th but only 34 points behind us, so it’s important that all grades perform well this round.

La-Mar Poll Dorset stud is located at Roundhill, Culcairn and is proudly owned by the Randy Petes #1 Supporter Sam Williams.

Young Sammy is this rounds proud ball sponsor and it’s 3 seasons since we met him at Coogee when he met his hero David Warner during the Randy Petes v Sutherland match.

The Randy Petes also congratulate Sam who at just 12 years old, has been selected as Captain of the U13s Cricket Albury Wodonga Murray Team, which is a NSW High Performance Program. Sam will travel to Dubbo in this weekend to compete with the team at the NSW Youth Country Championships.

On top of that success, Sam also has been selected for the U12 Victorian State Team for national competition.

Thank you to Sam Williams

1st GRADE is at Coogee: While we are 6th and the Sharks are 16th, they are always a tough nut for us to crack. The historic record is 12 wins apiece but our win last year was the first in the previous five seasons. They have also beaten us 5 times at Coogee. Four years ago they scored 8-409 in a drawn match against us at Glenn McGrath.  Adam Semple is on the verge of 400 wickets with 395 for the club and 393 in 1st Grade. 2nd Grade is at Glenn McGrath: We have beaten the Sharks the past 5 matches. Can we make it 6? It will be a hard game as they are running 2nd and we are 10th. That may be just the incentive our boys need following a narrow 8 runs loss last Saturday. We have played them 5 times at Glenn McGrath and won 3.

3rd Grade is at Petersham: Not getting on last Saturday cost us the lead in the competition. We are now 3rd behind NDs and UNSW, both of which won last week. While Sutherland have won 7 to our 5 over the years, we have won 4 of the last 5 with one loss at Petersham when they scored 8-207 to our 206. Jaya Murdita captains the side in the absence of Tom Holland.

4th Grade is at Tonkin: We are 13th and they are 3rd with 4 wins out of the 5 matches. The Sharks have also beaten us 5 times in the past 6 meetings. A tough one but no game is, or should, be easy. This will be the first time our 4th Grade has played at Tonkin. It will also be only the 6th time we have played Sutherland away. Unfortunately, we have only won once against them in an away game—in 2007-08. However, we have won 6 times at 13 home games.

5th Grade is at Snape: There won’t be much in this game with both teams recording one win so far this season. We have won 3 of the past 5 clashes so have a bit of an edge. It will be the first time we have played Sutherland at Snape Oval although we have only won 3 of 8 home games against them.

Metropolitan Cup. Green will play Sydney University Blue at St Pauls on Sunday and Gold plays Georges River at Snape Park also on Sunday. Both sides are coming off strong wins in tricky chases, with the last round before Christmas throwing up logistical and playing challenges. With the commencement of Green Shield and the festive season, the players who do take the field will have their work cut out for them. Green will be looking to shore up their position in the top 3, but will have the challenge of Sydney University Blue, who have been a thorn in Metro Cup sides in recent years. Meanwhile, Gold will see playing Georges River as an opportunity to start a streak of wins, particularly after the River were comprehensively beaten by Green a couple of weeks ago.
