It’s Australia Day tomorrow and it could also be Randwick Petersham Cricket day, as the 1st Grade team plays for a place in the Kingsgrove Sports Twenty20 Cup Grand Final. The big match will be the Preliminary Final at Coogee Oval on Wednesday from 2.30 pm against neighbouring University of NSW Cricket Club. The victor will line up against the winner of the other match between Sydney University and Parramatta on Sunday week, 6 February.
And the BIG NEWS is that Randwick Petersham champions, Jason Sangha and Daniel Sams, will be in the team! Both players, who were stars for Sydney Thunder in the BBL, were recently named in the BBL Team of the Tournament, Daniel for the third successive year.
There have been a number of exciting T20 matches this season and tomorrow’s clash promises to be no exception. Both sides played amazing cricket in the semi-finals last Sunday, to make the Preliminary Final. Randwick Petersham got there with a flurry of sixes and just four balls to spare against St George after being 6-82 chasing 144. University made the play-off in even more spectacular fashion. Playing division leaders, Mosman at Allan Border Oval, Uni. needed seven to win off the final over with four wickets left. But a hat-trick to Mosman fast bowler Jake Turner saw former Randy Pete, Hayden McLean, on strike with six needed off one ball. And he did it! With a single blow Uni. won the match by one run!
