Lyall’s Preview Round 4 v Western Suburbs and Metro Cup
DAY 2
1st GRADE: Early wickets will be the order of the day after the side posted a huge 5-375 off 96 overs—its highest score ever recorded against Western Suburbs. The previous highest was 6-350 at the same venue in 2018-19. Stars of the day were two batters who received their baggy green caps in their debut with the club the Saturday before. Austin Waugh made 121 and Eknoor Singh ended unconquered on 135*. It was the ninth time two 1st Grade centuries had been scored in the same innings for the club. The last occasion was when David Warner (157) and Soumil Chhibber (108) racked up the numbers, ironically also against Wests and also at Pratten Park and also in round 4. The danger man will again be Joshua Clarke who made 142* in defeating us last year.
Last Saturday was another milestone for Anthony Sams as he brought up his 350th 1st Grade match (313 with us and 37 with Bankstown). There is plenty of interest in Anthony this season as he needs just 19 dismissals to break the all-time wicketkeeping record of 542. He currently has 524.
2nd GRADE: We have a handy lead of 28 with 6 wickets in the shed after knocking over the Magpies last Saturday for 138. Ben Mitchell did the business with 5-46 off 17 overs while Ben Tracey and Kashif Naseem both took two wickets. Cam Hawkins put the icing on the cake with 69 hitting 11 fours and a six. Hopes will be high to bring home maximum points.
3rd GRADE: A bit of work to do here. Wests were dismissed for only 115 with Jake Myers taking 4-18 and Josh Bird 3-15 after having 3-3. We are currently 3-35 off 27 overs with the Segal brothers—Josh and Jordan at the crease. We need 81 to bring up the first win of the season.
4th GRADE: After having them 5-140 last Saturday, the Wests tail really wagged and at stumps they were 8-248 off 73 overs. Ryan Di Blasio with 3-45 (12) and Mark Tape with 3-64 (15) shared 6 of the wickets. We need to bat well.
5th GRADE: Wests already have a lead over our 99 having finished the day last Saturday at 5-108. Kaisei Doggett has 3-19 after top-scoring with 42. No doubt they will be looking for outright points so a chance for our young batters to show the undoubted talent they possess.
METRO: Gold has Sutherland 8-212 off 81 overs at Tonkin while Green has Penrith 7-252 off 80 overs at Petersham. Both sides will be looking for good weather on Sunday to set up a good chase.
