Lyall’s Preview Preview Round 6 v Hawkesbury, Metro Cup & PGs
Round 6 is a series of two-day matches for all 5 grades and Metro Cup. In Premier Cricket, we play Hawkesbury while Metro Green play Mosman and Gold plays NSW Hurricanes Maroon over the next two Sundays. The Poidevin-Gray competition also resumes with us up against Bankstown at Bankstown Oval this Sunday.
An excellent weekend for the club last week with 4 wins in Premier cricket and 2 in Metropolitan Cup. Our 2nd Grade was the only casualty. Bonus points to both 3rd and 4th grades, were a bonus in every sense of the word. That performance kicked us up the Club Championship list to 15th, less than 50 points from the top 10. We have picked up 5 places in just a few weeks. The challenge now is to maintain the momentum. Hawkesbury is 4 spots behind us in the Club Championship, so we need to take every opportunity to chase maximum points.
There were a few result milestones last weekend. Both the 3rd Grade score of 9cc-248 and the 4th Grade score of 9cc-244 were the highest totals by those teams against Sutherland in a limited overs match. In 5th Grade, their win by 9 wickets was the greatest win by that team by wickets, in a limited overs match—against all clubs. Outstanding stuff!
1st Grade moved into third place on the points ladder after its third win last weekend courtesy of a superb performance by skipper Riley Ayre to set a new record for the greatest bowling figures for us with 8-29. Anthony Sams hit his 37th half century (53) while Daya Singh hit his 9th with a blistering 73 off just 61 balls in a partnership between the pair of 113 for the 6th wicket. Daya is on the crest of 3,500 career runs in 1st Grade, having now scored 3,498. Daniel Sams returns from injury to further strengthen the side as well as Mitchell O’Loughlin after some fine returns with the ball in 2nd Grade.
Debutant George Bell hit an impressive 70 off 90 balls in 2nds loss while James Mahony-Brack led the 3rd Grade charge with 79 off 102 with 11 fours and a six to record the side’s first win. Yashvardhn Singh hit a fine half-century in that match with 58 off 55. Ben Chaplin’s 93 off 93 with 12 fours and 2 sixes steered a winning score of 9-244 in 4ths while Mark Tape cleaned up with a masterful 5-29. And in 5s, unconquered innings of 70* by Rishabh Goyal and 44* by Kaisei Doggett were responsible for a wonderful win by a massive 9 wickets—their first success since round 5 last season.
Both of our Metro teams posted good wins last weekend with Gold running down Warringah’s 189 with 5-190 and 9 balls to spare while Green left it to the second last ball of the day with the last two at the wicket, to sneak past St George’s 134 with 9-135. Four wicket hauls to both E-Young Khoo and Devesh Negi and 40s to Zac Puckett, Marcus D’Ambrosio, Guneet Kalra and Angus Beaumont confirmed the talent within the ranks.
This weekend’s matches v Hawkesbury over Saturdays 9-16 November: 1st Grade @ Coogee; 2nd Grade @ Owen Earle; 3rd Grade @ Petersham; 4th Grade @ Bensons Lane 2; 5th Grade @ Snape. 1s and 2s from 10am; 3s, 4s and 5s from 11 am.
Metropolitan Cup: RP Green v Mosman at Balmoral over Saturdays 9-16 November. RP Gold v NWS Hurricanes Maroon at Petersham over Sundays 10-17 November. Both matches start at midday.
Poidevin-Gray. The under 21 competition resumes on Sunday 10 November with a round 3 TWENTY20 match against Bankstown at Bankstown from 10 am. We lead the competition on 11 points with Bankstown second on 10. The boys are on fire and this is a big chance to put ourselves in the picture for a second premiership within 3 years. At 3pm, we will play a round 4 TWENTY20 match against St George at Grahame Thomas Oval (next to Bankstown Oval).
