Lyall’s Preview Round 12 Day 2 v Penrith & Metro Cup + Ltd Overs QF

It’s a big weekend for Randwick Petersham Cricket with the completion of round 12 on Saturday and on Sunday, the 1st Grade Qualifying Final in the Limited Overs Cup competition. A disappointing end to the season for our A W Green Shield boys on Thursday losing the last match to forfeit a place in the finals.

Saturday:

  • 1st Grade is 2-34 chasing Penrith’s 263 at Coogee. Eknoor Singh on 17* and Riley Ayre on 5* are the not out bats. Riley Ayre took his third “five-for” with a 5-107 performance giving him 35 wickets so far this season.
  • 3rd Grade is 3-22 chasing Penrith’s 137 at Petersham. Yashvardhn Singh on 7* and Jordan Segal 0* are the not out bats. Jake Myers took 4-9 off an amazing 14 overs!
  • 5th Grade have Penrith 9-147 at Kensington. Danial Haider has 3-29 (15) and Devesh Negi 3-52 (28). The last 2 at the wicket have put on 18* and faced 96 balls between them!
  • 2nd Grade and 4th Grade were washed out last Saturday and will each play a one-day match at Howell and Bill Ball ovals respectively.
  • Metro Cup: RPC Gold was also washed out last Saturday and will play a one day match against Penrith at Rance Oval.

Sunday:

  • 1st Grade will play Eastern Suburbs at Coogee in the Qualifying Final of the Limited Overs Cup. Eight teams are participating with the four winners progressing to the Semi-Final on Sunday 2 February. This will be the 11th time the club has participated in the finals series of the Limited Overs Cup. We have won twice, the most recent being four seasons ago in 2020-21 when we beat Sydney at Drummoyne Oval in the Grand Final. We finished 3rd in the points table this season with 4 wins from the 6 rounds.

We have an outstanding record in limited overs cricket. Since our first season in 2001-02, we have played 185 matches, winning 107 with 4 ties and 9 with no result. We have lost just 65.

  • Metro Cup: RPC Green is 0-44 chasing Hawkesbury’s 134 at Petersham Oval. Hardeep Kumar took 7-26 on debut with the club and in Metro. An interesting scenario occurred when Hawkesbury were bowling. It took 3 bowlers to complete one over when the first 2 were removed from the attack after bowling successive waist-high full tosses! A first in cricket???
